Capitals unable to overtake the Coyotes

The Washington Capitals came up short again last night after falling 3-1 against the Arizona Coyotes. Washington has been struggle to pull off victories this week despite leading the Metropolitan Division.

Scoring Drought

The Capitals currently lost three out of the past four games. Notably missing on the offensive size, Alexander Ovechkin leads this scoreless drought. Despite being all over the puck for the entire match-up, Ovechkin could not sink it in the net. He has not made a goal in the past four games.

“He hits a post, a couple plays that are bouncing off guys on the way in, he’s getting himself into scoring areas which is the key for him and you know for me, it’s about our team being able to help him out and be able to produce a little more through our four lines.” – Coach Todd Reirden

This Capitals star has amount 698 goals in his career. Prior to this week, he accumulated 14 goals in just seven games. Two goals shy of reaching 700 on the career. He would become only the eighth player in NHL history to own such stats.

While Ovechkin brought the puck down the ice, the rest of the Capitals failed to deliver. The Coyotes secured victory with a power-play goal shot by Jakob Chychrun but deflected into the net by Phil Kessel in the third period.

Road to Vegas

With the memory of holding the coveted NHL Stanley Cup trophy in hand two seasons ago fresh in the heads of players, the Capitals look to muster up momentum to take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

A Glimpse into William Harley

For my first post, I decided that would share the incomparable biography of my father, William Harley. He was born September 7, 1966, in Lewisburg, PA. From a young age, he was reserved, yet comical, and independent. He even had a nickname through high school (“Bugs”) derived from his love of the cartoon character Bugs Bunny. From high school, he does keep in contact with his two closest friends—Randy and Bill. In fact, our entire family ran into Bill and his family at Disney Springs randomly a few years ago. After graduating high school, William went to Randolph-Macon College on a golf scholarship studying psychology. From then on, he knew he wanted to have a career in the golf industry. He has worked as a Head Professional of golf for almost thirty years. His biggest accomplishment in his career is two-fold: one, when he was name PGA Professional of the Year in 2018 and again when he was voted as the President of the Southwest PGA Chapter in 2019.

My father and I attending another Rays game together like we always do.

Enough of the resume talk. Let’s dive into what makes Bill, Bill! Bill is a very interesting guy. He has faced his fair share of struggles in his life. He lost his sister to cancer in 1997, his mother to cancer in 2018, and our beloved family Labrador Toby to cancer in 2019. But his two savings are his two kids—Alexa (20) and John (18). His biggest hope in his life is that he passes down his sense of humor and ability to look for the goodness in life onto his children. And he has. To him, the biggest cultural moment that he got to witness in his lifetime was when President Ronald Reagan was able to get the wall torn down in Germany. The entire world was watching Reagan and Gorbachev discuss anxiously waiting to see if we may enter into another war or a peaceful coexistence.

William has numerous embarrassing or just plain humorous moments in his life. But according to him, the ultimate comical humiliation occurred right after he turned 21. He and his sister went out and did 21 tequila and tobasco shots. The next day he was playing in a tournament. He already had not been feeling his usual self. Anyway, he stepped up to the tee and took his driver shot but held the finishing pose. He then muttered to his sister that he pooped his pants. He had never seen his sister hysterically laugh like that before. And to this day it is one of his favorite memories of he and his sister despite the unfortunate circumstances.

To close out this small glimpse into who William Harley is, his favorite joke (among thousands you could get from a Mel Brooks film) is “there’s a sale at pennys,” which comes from the “classic,” film, Airplane.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
